Training Room Questions & Answers

Q: What is the shelf life of the CorrX PREP after it has been mixed to gel?

A:

Typically, the CorrX PREP can be used as long as it remains in a gel state. We recommend using it within 24 hours from when it was mixed; however, if lower quality water is used (higher in metal ions), the reactivity may diminish prior to a noticeable drop in viscosity.

Q: What is the shelf life of the CorrX WASH?

A:

The CorrX WASH in concentrate or after being mixed has a shelf life of one year when stored in a clean and closed container.

Q: What is the best way to apply the CorrX PREP as a gel?

A:

The best and most efficient way to apply the gel is with an airless sprayer although it may be applied with a brush, a roller or using a conventional sprayer.

Q: What PPE is required when using the products?

A:

Please refer to our Safety Data Sheets on each product for PPE requirements.

Q: What mil thickness do I apply the CorrX PREP gel?

A:

We recommend a consistent and uniform application of the gel between 16 and 20 mils.

Q: Can I order the product without technical support?

A:

No. Our process requires that a certified technician oversee the application of our products. Training is available through our certification program.

Q: How many applications of the process are required to remove all contaminants from the surface?

A:

In most cases, one application of our process will remove all contaminants. We have experienced some cases where an additional application is required due to the high level of contaminants on the surface. In these situations, a clean substrate can be accomplished with two applications of CorrX PREP followed by one rinse step with CorrX WASH.

Q: Are there trained applicators in my area I can call?

A:

We have several trained applicators throughout the United States and in some foreign countries. We recommend contacting us directly and our personnel will provide you with information about certified applicators in your area.

Q: Can the product be used near fire?

A:

Please refer to our Safety Data Sheets for more details.

Q: What precautions need to be taken if the product is spilled?

A:

Due to the diverse industries in which our product is used, if product is spilled, “site specific” precautions must be taken. Please refer to our SDSs for more detail.

Q: What metals can the product be applied to?

A:

The product can be applied to all hard metal surfaces and will be most effective when all interference material is removed, such as process oils, prior coatings, soils, etc.

Q: Will the product harm wood or plastic surfaces if exposed through overspray?

A:

We do not recommend the application of our product on wood or plastic. Our product will not harm wood or plastic if removed as soon as it comes in contact with the surface.

Q: Are there any temperature limitations for the product to be successful or unsuccessful?

A:

Please review the Safety Data Sheets on both products.

Q: Can the product be used in an enclosed area?

A:

Yes, our product can be used in an enclosed area. Remember to follow OSHA guidelines when applying our products in an enclosed environment.

Q: How does the product ship?

A:

Normally, the product ships on a standard shipping pallet or skid. CorrX PREP is shipped in a four U.S. gallon square bucket, which contains five (5.3 lbs.) bags of powder. The CorrX WASH ships in a 5-gallon bucket containing five U.S. gallons of concentrate solution.

Q: Are there certain coatings that perform better after our treatment?

A:

Since we are coating neutral, most coatings perform better after our treatment. Testing data shows we make a substantial difference on the life of the coating system.

Q: Is an inhibitor still necessary after using our process?

A:

Although our process does not leave a residue on the surface, it is not necessary to apply a corrosion inhibitor prior to coating. TGS does not recommend changing your normal coating system specifications until proper approval has been granted to skip this test.

Q: Is the product environmentally safe?

A:

Yes. All of our ingredients are biodegradable and safe to use. We recommend reviewing our Safety Data Sheets and following your environmental standards.

Q: How should open product be disposed of?

A:

All used and unused product should be disposed of in accordance with your environmental guidelines. Any disposal must be in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Q: What testing protocols are available for review?

A:

Public availability of testing protocols includes SEM studies and cathodic disbondment of coatings. Testing results are available upon request.
